Wind Damage Roof Repair

Veteran-owned · A+ BBB · 15-year workmanship warranty

Wind is the number one cause of roof damage in Central Florida. It does not take a hurricane: a 60 mph gust front on a July afternoon can lift a row of shingles that were installed with too few nails or whose seal strip had weakened with age. Sunny Roofing repairs wind damage across the Orlando area, documents it for insurance, and fixes the reason it lifted so it does not happen again.

Signs of Wind Damage

  • Shingles on the lawn or in the gutters
  • Shingles that look raised at the bottom edge, or creased across the middle
  • A bare patch of black underlayment or wood
  • Ridge or hip caps missing
  • Loose or flapping drip edge and flashing
  • Water stains on the ceiling after the next rain

How Wind Damage Is Repaired

Lifted or creased shingles. A creased shingle has a broken mat and will not reseal. It is replaced along with any neighbor whose seal strip broke. New shingles are hand-sealed so they hold before the next storm.

Missing shingles. The exposed underlayment is checked for tears, then new shingles are woven in and sealed. Color matching uses the same manufacturer line where it is still available.

Flashing and ridge caps. Bent step flashing, lifted counter-flashing and missing ridge caps are replaced, not glued down.

Widespread damage. When lifting shows up across several slopes, the roof has usually reached the end of its seal life and replacement is the better spend. On homes built before the 2007 Florida Building Code, the 25 percent rule can require it. The inspector shows you which case you are in.

Wind Damage and Insurance

Windstorm is a covered peril on Florida homeowner policies, subject to your hurricane or wind deductible. Sunny Roofing photographs and maps the damage for the adjuster and repairs the roof once the scope is approved. Florida law requires replacement materials to reasonably match the existing roof (Fla. Stat. § 626.9744), which matters when a partial repair would leave a patchwork. Read more on the insurance claim assistance page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a few missing shingles be repaired, or do I need a new roof?

A few shingles on one slope are a repair. The inspector checks whether the surrounding shingles are still sealed; if the seal has failed across the slope, repair only buys time.

Will my insurance cover wind damage?

Wind is covered on standard Florida policies, subject to your deductible. The free inspection report gives the adjuster the documentation to approve the scope.

How fast can you repair wind damage?

Emergency tarping is same day across Central Florida. Most repairs are scheduled within days; insurance jobs follow adjuster approval.

Why did my shingles blow off when my neighbor’s did not?

Usually nail count, nail placement or an aged seal strip. Roofs installed with four nails instead of six, or with nails above the nail line, lift first.

Do you repair tile and metal roofs after wind?

Yes. Cracked or displaced tile is reset or replaced, and lifted metal panels or trim are refastened or fabricated in house.
